Zoology by Biome Student Notebook 5th–6th
Details
One notebook per student. That's the rule - and this is the one for 5th–6th.
This is the write-in Student Notebook for Zoology by Biome (5th–6th) - a science notebook for 5th and 6th grade that your student fills in all year. The teacher teaches from the Teacher Manual; the student does the work right here - deeper note-taking with diagrams, fuller written responses, and the quizzes and tests that make the year real. All organized by where the animals live.
What's inside
- 24 lessons across 4 biomes - the same shared lesson plan as every other Zoology by Biome notebook
- Deeper note-taking pages with diagrams - students record what they learn in their own words
- 10–15 minute homework assignments with each lesson
- Unit quizzes and two semester tests (answer keys in the Teacher Manual)
- A science project with a rubric between Unit 2 and Unit 3
- Optional Bible verse pages per unit (bubble letters to color or trace) - you choose how to use these
The year at a glance (4 units)
Unit 1 - Mountains & Forests: bears & foxes, pit vipers & frogs, salmon & beetles, owls, vultures & hummingbirds - then Kodiak Island, Alaska
Unit 2 - Deserts & Grasslands: cats & marsupials, turtles, crocodilians & toads, spiders, scorpions & lungfish, large flightless birds - then Patagonia, Argentina
Unit 3 - Tundra: caribou & musk ox, lizards & salamanders, sharks & plankton, penguins & puffins - then the Nordic Arctic
Unit 4 - Rainforests & Coasts: bats & primates, caecilians, boas & pythons, piranhas, butterflies & moths, parrots & herons - then the Congo rainforest, Africa
How it works
Paired with the 3rd–6th Teacher Manual, each lesson takes part of a 1–1.5 hour week, spread over 1–2 days a week - at home, in a co-op, or in a hybrid classroom. 3rd–4th graders follow the same lessons with lighter notebook work in the 3rd–4th notebook - so mixed-age rooms and multi-age homes stay on one path.
What you need
Basic supplies - pencils, crayons or colored pencils, scissors, glue sticks, and erasers - plus unit materials from the grocery store, Walmart, or Dollar Tree. The Teacher Manual lists everything per lesson and per unit.
Who it's for
- Homeschool families with 5th or 6th graders (ages 10–12)
- Co-op and hybrid classrooms - one shared lesson plan, each student writes in their own notebook
- Multi-age homes - 3rd–4th graders follow the same lessons with lighter work in the 3rd–4th Student Notebook
