Zoology by Biome Student Notebook 1st–2nd
Details
One notebook per student. That's the rule - and this is the one for 1st–2nd.
This is the write-in Student Notebook for Zoology by Biome (1st–2nd) - a science notebook for 1st and 2nd grade that your student fills in all year. The teacher teaches from the Teacher Manual; the student does the work right here - drawing, writing first words and short sentences, cutting and pasting their way through a year of animals, organized by where the animals live.
What's inside
- 24 lessons across 4 biomes - the same shared lesson plan as every other Zoology by Biome notebook
- Leveled notebook work - the Teacher Manual's age-band icons show which activities are for the whole group and which are for 1st–2nd graders; this is the 1st–2nd level
- Read-aloud pairings - each lesson closes with a read-aloud from the manual
- Optional Bible verse pages per unit (bubble letters to color or trace) - you choose how to use these
- No quizzes - just hands-on work and a book that's theirs
The year at a glance (4 units)
Unit 1 - Mountains & Forests: bears & foxes, pit vipers & frogs, salmon & beetles, owls, vultures & hummingbirds - then Kodiak Island, Alaska
Unit 2 - Deserts & Grasslands: cats & marsupials, turtles, crocodilians & toads, spiders, scorpions & lungfish, large flightless birds - then Patagonia, Argentina
Unit 3 - Tundra: caribou & musk ox, lizards & salamanders, sharks & plankton, penguins & puffins - then the Nordic Arctic
Unit 4 - Rainforests & Coasts: bats & primates, caecilians, boas & pythons, piranhas, butterflies & moths, parrots & herons - then the Congo rainforest, Africa
How it works
Paired with the PreK–2nd Teacher Manual, each lesson takes part of a 1–1.5 hour week, spread over 1–2 days a week - at home, in a co-op, or in a hybrid classroom. PreK–K children follow the same lessons with simpler notebook work - so mixed-age rooms and multi-age homes stay on one path.
What you need
Basic supplies - pencils, crayons or colored pencils, scissors, glue sticks, and erasers - plus unit materials from the grocery store, Walmart, or Dollar Tree. The Teacher Manual lists everything per lesson and per unit.
Who it's for
- Homeschool families with 1st or 2nd graders (ages 6–8)
- Co-op and hybrid classrooms - one shared lesson plan, each student writes in their own notebook
- Multi-age homes - PreK–K siblings follow the same lessons with simpler work in the PreK–K Student Notebook
