Details

One notebook per child. That's the rule - and this is the one for PreK–K.

This is the write-in Student Notebook for Zoology by Biome (PreK–K) - a science notebook for PreK and Kindergarten that your child fills in all year. The teacher teaches from the Teacher Manual; the child does the work right here - cutting, coloring, tracing, and circling their way through a year of animals, organized by where the animals live.

What's inside

  • 24 lessons across 4 biomes - the same shared lesson plan as every other Zoology by Biome notebook
  • Cut, color, trace, and circle activities sized for little hands
  • Read-aloud pairings - each lesson closes with a read-aloud from the manual
  • Optional Bible verse pages per unit (bubble letters to color or trace) - you choose how to use these
  • No quizzes - just hands-on work and the joy of a book that's theirs

The year at a glance (4 units)

Unit 1 - Mountains & Forests: bears & foxes, pit vipers & frogs, salmon & beetles, owls, vultures & hummingbirds - then Kodiak Island, Alaska

Unit 2 - Deserts & Grasslands: cats & marsupials, turtles, crocodilians & toads, spiders, scorpions & lungfish, large flightless birds - then Patagonia, Argentina

Unit 3 - Tundra: caribou & musk ox, lizards & salamanders, sharks & plankton, penguins & puffins - then the Nordic Arctic

Unit 4 - Rainforests & Coasts: bats & primates, caecilians, boas & pythons, piranhas, butterflies & moths, parrots & herons - then the Congo rainforest, Africa

How it works

Paired with the PreK–2nd Teacher Manual, each lesson takes part of a 1–1.5 hour week, spread over 1–2 days a week - at home, in a co-op, or in a hybrid classroom. 1st–2nd graders follow the same lessons with deeper notebook work in the 1st–2nd notebook - so mixed-age rooms and multi-age homes stay on one path.

What you need

Basic supplies - pencils, crayons or colored pencils, scissors, glue sticks, and erasers - plus unit materials from the grocery store, Walmart, or Dollar Tree. The Teacher Manual lists everything per lesson and per unit.

Who it's for

  • Homeschool families with PreK–K children (ages 4–6)
  • Co-op and hybrid classrooms - one shared lesson plan, each child works in their own notebook
  • Multi-age homes - 1st–2nd graders follow the same lessons with deeper work in the 1st–2nd Student Notebook

Print format

Print-only, spiral-bound, and shipped to you. The Student Notebook is consumable - one per child. Buying the whole set? Get the PreK–2nd Book Bundle and save.

Leave an imprint

One write-in book per child, a year of animals by where they live - and every page they fill is an imprint. The book is theirs to keep.

FAQ

What exactly is the Student Notebook? This is the write-in book for your child. You teach from the PreK–2nd Teacher Manual; your PreK–K child does the work right here - cutting, coloring, tracing, and circling through a year of animals by biome.

Do I need the Teacher Manual? Yes. The notebook is the child's work; the manual is what you teach from - scripted lessons, read-alouds, and materials lists. Get the PreK–2nd Teacher Manual on its own or the PreK–2nd Book Bundle (manual + both notebooks).

What ages is this for? PreK–K (ages 4–6). 1st–2nd graders follow the same lessons with deeper notebook work in the 1st–2nd Student Notebook - the manual's age-band icons show which activities are for the whole group and which are for 1st–2nd graders.

How is this different from the 1st–2nd notebook? Same 24 lessons, same biomes, same animals - different work. This one is cut, color, trace, and circle; the 1st–2nd notebook adds drawing, first words, and short sentences.

How much time does it take each week? Part of a 1–1.5 hour week, spread over 1–2 days a week - at home, in a co-op, or in a hybrid classroom.

Are there quizzes or tests? No - the PreK–2nd band has no quizzes. Just hands-on work, read-alouds, and a book that's theirs.

Is it consumable? Yes - children write in it, so it's one per child. The Teacher Manual is non-consumable: keep it, reuse it, pass it on.

Can I use it in a co-op or hybrid classroom? Yes - one shared lesson plan, each child works in their own notebook.

Is there religious content? Each unit includes an optional Bible verse page (bubble letters to color or trace), with coordinating verse studies on our website via QR code. You choose how to use these - they can be set aside entirely.
